Fall 2011 Anime First Impressions: C3

Plot Synopsis: “A school battle action & love comedy with ecchi elements. Yachi Haruaki is a high school boy and naturally resistant to curses. His father, Honatsu, sends him cursed instruments called “Worse” to try to break this. One day, Haruaki receives a black cube from Honatsu. During the night, he encounters a naked silver haired girl stealing rice crackers. She is the human-form of the black cube, an instrument of torture called “Fear in Cube”. Haruaki and the girl ‘Fear’ fight together against other ‘Worse’ instruments and their owners using Fear’s 32 mechanisms of torture.”

Thoughts: Templates are not always a bad thing to use.  Sometimes it makes things just a bit easier to work with.  Other times it just being plain ass lazy in your work.  C3 is based off a template but that does not always mean that an anime based off a template is always a bad thing.  Is C3 original?  Not by a long shot, but that does not mean it cannot be fun to watch.

This box shows up where Yachi lives one day and somehow it is turned into this loli character named Fear who by the way has some great animation with her hair.  So it seems out hero is resistant to curses and it seems his dad wants to break him of this.  So after his childhood friend shows up and goes to school, Fear does some chores and breaks things in the process.

I do have to give credit where credit is due and I have to say the character designs are nice.  There seems to be a lot of fanservice presented here and there is just a bit of censorship but it is the hair censorship so it feels more natural than the mysterious rays of light.  The background art is all right, but nothing really to be excited about at all.  The voice acting is surprisingly good for the few casts members were are presented with here.

There is some potential here with how this show will turn out, but this first episode does not give us the impression that it will be completely above average.  That is not to say that this show should be ignored.  We will have to wait and see how the series will progress.

Score: 2/5
