Summer 2011 First Impressions: Twin Angel

Synopsis: “Haruka Minazuki and Aoi Kannazuki are freshman high school students and best friends. During the day they help with school activities but at night they thwart enemies like Black Auction and other villains as Red Angel and Blue Angel, the Twin Angel team.”

Thoughts: Ever watch something and wonder why it was made in the first place?  You get that with Twin Angel.  Based off a pachinko game (like last season’s show Battle Girls, but I have done myself a favor and have not watched that show).  In the show we have two middle school students (I know the synopsis says high school but I cannot be sure) who by day are normal students and by night are a group of thieves called Twin Angel who get this steal stuff BACK from thieves.  There seems to be some group that is trying to steal the artifacts that could spell doom for the world if they got their hands on them.

The show has stupid written all over it.  There is a tuxedo mask rip off, the standard nude transformation scene, enemies who are after items, etc, etc.  In fact the shows is full of magical girl tropes, but I cannot tell if it is supposed to be a parody of the genre or just a flat out rip off of the genre.  Nothing in this show goes above mediocre from the character designs, the animation, and even the music.  There is some fanservice but in a way it is not terrible mostly bouncing breasts and even that is tame by today’s standards.

For all that may be bad about the show, I did not find it a chore to watch.  I got some fun out of watching the first episode.  I guess there can be some enjoyment here if you do not take this show seriously.

Score 2/5 (if you don’t take it seriously) 1/5 (if you do take it seriously)
