Spring 2011 First Impressions : 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku, Dog Days

30-sai no Hoken Taiiku Episode 1

Plot Synopsis: “A guide book teaching shy men around 30 how to date and have sex with women. Hayao Imagawa, a 30 year old salaryman, is visited by Daigorou, a god sent from heaven to help him get rid of his virginity.”

Thoughts: Have you watched something and say to yourself “What the hell were they thinking when coming up with this idea?”  That pretty much sums up what I watched (I only could muster the first 6 minutes).  The whole idea of show around a guide book for 30 year olds to have sex is just outright terrible, and from what I have seen this is just that.

The most crippling and most damaging part of this whole thing is the censorship that is used throughout the show.  Lessons, titles of the episode segments, and of course certain parts of the human body are censored.  Now, the body parts being censored is not so bad, but when you are TRYING TO TEACH A LESSON ABOUT SEX AND YOU CENSOR WHAT IS BEING SAID WHAT IS THE POINT OF GIVING A LESSON!

If you are that curious about watching this show, wait until the DVD/BD release, hopefully it will be uncensored.

Score: 1/5

Dog Days Episode 1

Plot Synopsis: “In the land of Fronaldo, the Republic of Biscotti has been aggressively attacked by the Lion Kingdom of Galette. Facing potential defeat, Princess Millhiore summons a hero who can save the country. What she gets is Izumi Shinku, a middle-school boy from Japan. Awaiting him in Fronaldo is the task of becoming hero enough to defeat his enemies while learning the peculiar rules of battle in this strange new world.”

Thoughts: Just from the description listed above anybody reading it would think the show is just another generic fantasy story, which it is.  Most of the stuff in the show is generic, the character designs, the music, even the voice action is nothing special.  With all that going against the show, it does have a cute feel to it.  The backgrounds are good, and you can’t really hate any of the cast which get no development whatsoever.

The fighting overall is something that is fun to watch, but not terrifying in the least.  No one dies, and when someone would get the potential lethal blow to kill him or her, they turn into a moe cat type creature like the one you would see in Lucky Star.  For all that is going against the series, it is not a bad way to waste some time, and it provides the fluff that we sometimes need in our life.
